Has anyone out there ever used valium!? Im taking 1 tonight, and one tomorrow an hour before the appt.

Valium before my dentist appointment...?
Never had to take anything before having my cavities filled.

I had those operations more than a couple of times already.

Don't worry. The dentist has a "spray" that will numb your gums before injecting the area with anesthesia. Nothing to it.

You'll be alright.
Reply:THE VALIUM WILL MAKE YOU FEEL MORE AT EASE FOR THIS APPOINTMENT.
Reply:The taking one tonight and one an hour before the appointment are good. The valium will last in your body for a few hours and to have 3 cavities filled shouldn't take more than a half hour-45 minutes at the most. See if they can gas you a little too to relax you a little bit. My husband has a huge phobia of the dentist and I did the same thing with him and he did great. He said he just felt loopy and a little out of it, but was fine and not real anxious about going.
Reply:Valium is a very strong narcotic. It will make you feel very unfocused, your speech will be slurred and your body movements will be very slow. Your dentist will most likely not perform the procedure on you if you show up while high on drugs. If you really need something to calm your nerves, I use st. johns wort pills. You will be calm, but not high. They are available at your local drugstore without a prescription and are inexpensive.

Good luck.
Reply:I had Oral surgery a week ago and had to take a valium before my app. It was the first time I had ever took one and I really didnt feel anything but calm and relaxed, maybe a little drunk there is really no other way to explain it. Had I not took the valium I would have be crying as I walked in there (LOL) but instead I walked in fine talking smiling and laughing. I guess it took about 45 min for it to effect me and as for how long it lasted I dont know because I was put to sleep shortly after it took affect. Medications affect everyone differently tho. Good luck!!
Reply:The Valium should start to take effect in about 30 minutes and should last for a couple of hours. You will most likely feel sleepy at first but it will help with the underlying anxiety. Valium is a sedative so helping you feel calm and get rest the night before is important, besides calming you at the appointment the next morning. Does that help? It does more than relax, it actually sedates you without knocking you out like a general anesthetic.

Do not take any other medication than what your dentist prescribed (including over-the-counter products). They could interfere with any anesthetic medication the dentist may need to give you. Your dentist already took that into account when prescribing the Valium.

Make sure you have someone to drive you to and from the appointment, you will probably be feeling a bit "loopy".
