General dentist vs specialized?

hello

1. can general dentist practice all the things that specialized dentist do?

2.How hard is it to open up your own clinic in the bay area? How much will it cost to buy one and how much do you expect to get in the first year?

3. is the salary the same for general dentist and specialized?

thanks

General dentist vs specialized?
Okay, I don't know all of the answers, but I am going to try my hardest. First off. General Dentist can do most but not all that a specialized dentist can do. They can do of course, cleanings, fillings, crowns, posts, root canals, extractions, xrays etc. Specialized dentists can only do one type of speciality. Unless they went to school for more than one. However, they usually earn more than a general dentist, until the general dentist has a good amount of returning patients. (That could take years) Oral Surgeons probably make more money than any dentist, however they have more schooling. I don't think it would be that difficult to open a buisness in the bay area. All you need is of course your dipolma/certification from the state board, buisness license, and onward you go. May I suggest, if you are worried, to find a doctor who is going to retire in a few years, and start practicing with him. Then when he does retire, you have all of his clients, and they already know you and are comfortable with you. Finally, even if you do earn a good amount, which you should your first year, remember you have lots of student loans to pay back! :) I am not sure what the bay area starts around for dentist annually. I would check with the school that you are going to, they will have that information, and possibly even the doctor that you can take over the practice for. :)
