Odd situation with dentist...?

I changed dentists like 6 months ago...

The first dentist said I had 3 cavities. I went to this one and he says "no, you have 6" so I went and mom forked out like $1,000 to have them fixed. Then went back for a cleaning and he found 3 more (this was like 3 months or so later...) plus he had to fix one that he had messed up.

So, another $500 later...not including the freakin cleaning and panoramic x-ray (like $552 for that alone!)

He says I am fine now....but tells Destany now, why the he** he didn't tell me this....anyways, he tells Destany "I dont know how good she is taking care of her teeth, I found plaque" and crap like that. Well, duh! I haven't flossed today....you will find plaque on anyone's teeth. But to tell that to her INSTEAD OF ME?! Excuse me...if she would have told me this while we were there I would have went back in there....

So, after having NO problem with my teeth whatsoever and changing dentists who "finds" 9 cavities from September to Feburary?!

Mom is going up there tomorrow (gma takes us because mom works now...) and demanding all xrays, records, etc.

Does this sound odd to you? I have never had cavities (exaggeration, I've had a couple....but not anytime recent) and all of a sudden I am almost 18 and BAM? I think not.....oh, and Destany has 3 more (for a whopping total of 13!) the nurse said she didnt have any and he comes in and tells her she has 3....

He is draining their wallet and FAST. He took 2 panoramics of destany one in like September and one today.... to check her wisdom teeth....and he said last time they were way up in the bone...

Something seems "fishy"

Of course, I say pull them all and give me dentures, I am so sick of that dentist office...it'd probably be cheaper.

Odd situation with dentist...?
Sorry but you really need to change dentists! You got ripped off. Ill tell you what happened to me. I went to my dentist. He says I have 2 thin spots that will become cavities but they can wait. 6 months later i go to another dentist. He says I have 11 cavities!! They ask me to set an appt for fillings. I switch again and my new denstist says... I see 2 week spots but no way 11 cavities. So basically they are rip off artists. And just so you know... every time your teeth are filled... they are damaged. Sorry but you are getting your mouth jacked up by a jerk.
Reply:wow that is a weird situation. it kinda makes me think about my dentist becaus ei have really good teeth and have never had any cavities and now the tell me i have 3 also when i was just in there and i was fine so i wanna see some proof too, i swear u cant trust anyone anymore.
Reply:I don't really follow your story (who is Destany?), but it's not uncommon for two dentists not to have the same opinion on what needs to be worked on.

For example, you could have some very small cavities, but some dentists will wait until they are larger before working on them. The theory is if they're too small, it's difficult to repair them properly.

Other dentists are aggressive and start treatment as soon as possible. They feel confident they can repair small cavities properly.

Here's what you need to do...talk to the dentist and devise a plan of treatment. Have him prioritize what needs to be done now, and what can be deferred. Let him know your financial and insurance situation, and that you have to work around that.
Reply:I think a lot of dentists are staight-up scammers! I just got a new dentist and he's located in a "better" area of town. I'm suspicious of him also because he charged me over $1000

for two caps and they keep doing treatments that they don't actually ask about in advance. My insurance is good so I think they want the money from both the insurance company and me. I think they jacked up the price of simple treatments so that they're pockets get fat faster.

I finally told them not to do anything I haven't OK'd and to let me see the actual cost I'd have to pay.

I have decided though, that I am going to just find another dentist that is located in a ghetto or something...but that does a good cheap job.

ps i hear a lot of people get their teeth done in Mexico...i don't know if i'd trust that though.
