When do you take baby to dentist for first time?

My daughter is 7 months, but has no teeth. I am wondering when you took your child to the dentist for the first time? When is the recommended time to take them?

When you take a baby/toddler to the dentist do you take them to the regular dentist you go to, or do you take them to a "special" dentist?

Also, my mom works at a dentist and she was telling me about this maybe a month ago and was wondering if anyone else heard this. She told me that if a baby doesn't have any teeth by the age of 1 year old that there is a possibility that they may not get there baby teeth. I am thinking this is true since she has worked at the dentist for 15 years, but was wondering if anyone else heard about that?

When do you take baby to dentist for first time?
Your baby WILL get her baby teeth before her adult teeth. My daughter got her first tooth at 9 1/2 months and it only poked through. She is now almost 12 months and it's finally coming in all the way. Every child is different it can be longer than a year before babies baby teeth come in. It is currently recommended that a child pay his or her first visit to the dentist at one year of age, or six months after the first tooth erupts. You may go to a regular dentist if they accept children, but there are pediatric dentists available.

P.S. My 1 year old cousin had rotting teeth.. it wasn't genetic or anything but her parents decided to take her to the dentist for the heck of it and it was discovered!! It is very important to have your child see a dentist as early as possible. 5 years old is TOO long to wait!
Reply:When they turn 5 years. A regular dentist. If they do not get teeth around 15 months that is when you talk to your doctor, they will recommend you take your baby to the dentist.
Reply:I believe you take them when they are a year. I have never heard of a child not getting their baby teeth though.
Reply:Definitely before kindergarten, but b4 that is up to you. My son just turned 4 and I'm thinking about taking him soon.
Reply:two years call and make the appointment because it may take a while to get a new patient appt
Reply:i believe its when they are 2 but i could be miss taken all they do is a cleaning if nothing else is wrong
Reply:Prior to 2 year old, infants and toddlers don't need to go to the dentist unless their pediatricians tell them to. Kids at these early ages don't know how to sit still, open their mouths, etc. and it would be a waste of time. As long as they are having their gums brushed, and their teeth brushed 2-3 times a day, they should not have any problems or need any dental work.
Reply:you can take your baby to the dentist anytime. mine went at 5 months old. your baby doesn't have to have teeth to have her gums checked and to get use to going to the dentist from an early age without building up a fear association. some babies dont get their first tooth until after their 1st birthday and this is nothing to worry about. again when you take your baby to the dentist, they will check to see if the gums are healthy anyway. never heard about babies not getting teeth but I am sure someone somewhere has had it happen!
Reply:i took both my kids when they got their first two teeth....i take my children to a dentist specializing in taking care of babies toddlers and children. there are more around then you would think. i am sure what your mom said is right to a certain extent but as far as saying they will not get any of the teeth is not even the case.... they might not get all of them but they will get teeth.
Reply:There is no need to take your baby to the dentist before 5 years. If there are issues with the baby teeth than you should take your daughter to the dentist. Mother of 3 kids.
Reply:Get her registered asap. She will get used to the smell, noise etc and that will reduce her anxiety long term. Dont worry about no teeth - both mine were doing other things like talking, walking first. Everything comes to those who wait!
Reply:I have many baby books some say wait till a certain age but I will be sure to take my son to a dentist after his first teeth so I know he will have a very nice smile because my teeth were never perfect and very weak
Reply:My daughter went for her first visit at 3 because that is what her prior doctor reccommended it was a little late for me.

My son is 19 months old and he has his first appointment set for next month once he is 20 months. It all depends on you and how you think your child will handel it. I think by 2 years old is a good age.

My kids go to a children's dentist
Reply:I have been taking my son since he cut his first tooth. It is hard to find a denist that will take them. I was able to find a childrens denist in my area. My ped. even told me to start taking my girls as soon as there first tooth comes in. You should def start calling around to make sure you can find a denist to take your baby to. Some want take them until they are a certain age. Good Luck
Reply:My dentist advised me to bring my toddlers (starting at 15-18 months) just to sit on my lap during my cleanings, to get them used to the process. We tried that a couple of times. I didn't get my son's teeth checked til he was 3 1/2 and he already needed 3 crowns and a root canal. My daughter got a crown at 2 1/2 when a cavity imploded, very obviously.

I would say take them at 2 years old, based on my experience. We have no fluoride in our water and I think it's affected us.

I can't speak to the baby teeth issue. Mine got theirs at 4 mos. Good luck!
Reply:My son just turned 1 in January and he had his first dentist appointment today.. He has around 7 teeth. I'd say after 1 is a good age or when he or she has teeth.. it's never to early to start getting them used to going to the dentist, and brushing their teeth at that age at least once a day to get into the routine of keeping a clean mouth. Hope that helps..
Reply:My oldest is 19 months so I asked my dentist the same question

He said to start bringing him with me from 2 years, not that at 2 years it is vital for his teeth, but he can see what they do and get a gentle introduction to the chair, noise etc and so that when it is necessary then it will not be such a big deal

So this is my plan of action....
Reply:I am a dental hygienist and we recommend taking a child to the dentist at 1 year of age. My personal experience is just looking in the childs mouth when the parent is getting their teeth cleaned. A child that young will usually not cooperate. You can take your child to your dentist. We refer difficult children to pediatric dentists'. Most pedodontist's will not allow parents to the treatment area. Check before you make an appt. If a child goes with mom and sees how everything is done they usually will do fine when it is time for them to be seen. (Most children will not sit in the chair and have their teeth polished until 3-4 years of age). Make sure that you are brushing their teeth a minimum of 2 times a day. I have never heard of a child not getting teeth, however there is a disorder called anodontia---meaning no teeth. I don't think you should worry about that. Your child will have a mouth full of baby teeth before you know it!
Reply:I personally didn't get teeth until 14 months. Take your child to a pedodontist. They spesculize in seeing/dealing w/ children. They do not make it traumatic for them. Trust me I work in a dentist office and see just about every adult come in with horror stories of going to the dentist as a child. Most of them have neglected mouths because of their fears. We tell our patients with children that there may be a problem if they don't have teeth by two years of age.
Reply:I was told the first tooth the first trip to the dentist and to clean the mouth even before the tooth with a soft cloth .
