NHS DENTIST where are they ?????

After being chucked out by my old dentist because we have not been for 12 months (I heard they have gone private) trying to find a nhs dentist in my area, is a nightmare there is no practice taking any one on, what is my family suppose to do i have 2 kids and a husband and i myself need dental work if we have to go private it we cost a fortune any dentist out there reading shame on you for forceing out the nhs patients

Don't blame the dentists, blame the goverment for introducing unworkable policies that forced dentists to go private.

Reply:I had to send a letter with all my name, address, DOB etc to the primary care trust, you then go on to the waiting list until one in your area becomes available. If you have children put their details down too along with your husbands. I waited a few months to hear back but I my mum waited a week so it depends on availability. Good luck.
Reply:the government should deal with these people they are riding rough shod over the nation and it could be stopped in a jiffy it the minister of health should attend to it. a disgrace not typical of British behaviour

They will give you the phone number and address of your nearest NHS Dentist - be prepared to travel, our nearest one is a round trip of 70 miles! I am not joking. And when you do get the number ring to make sure they are taking on new patients.

Reply:Don't blame the dentists they have been forced into this ... U need to get in touch with your local main hospital, where your local A%26amp;E is usually they have an emergency dental department who in turn will have a list of Dentists taking on NHS patients ... Good Luck your gonna need it !!
Reply:Hi, I had the same problem recently, so i phoned NHS direct they gave me a telephone number and when i rang it they told me of local dentists that were taking on new patients, i got myself a dentist straight away. Also because i needed a filling i phoned the local emergency dentist the filling only cost me £15.50. Hope this helps.
Reply:Get in touch with your local PCT (Primary Care Trust) and ask them to find you one. Blame Patrica Hewitt and Tony Blair, if not join something like HSA, you pay like 2 pounds per week and they will pay money towards dental works, physio, hospital stays and you can cover the family. I needed a filling, even though I have a NHS dentist, they still paid towards it, I opted for the dearer filling lol. There is a link below which will direct you to your local PCT. Reply:Dunno, but if you find one let me know. Up here in Inverness they just don't exist. I am having to pay out £1,100 for a filling and a small bridge.


Maybe down in the south of England you might stand a chance of finding one, but I don't rate your chances much.


I think this is a disgusting state of affairs, but still Tony Blair's spending on the war in Iraq is so much more imperative than the nation's teeth don't you think? lol lol

Reply:Please let me know what area you live in and my company may have one , they have over 40 practices up and down the country that are NHS!


Try getting in conatct with your local Primary Care Trust and they should be able to help you out.

Reply:There are plenty NHS dentists here in Glasgow. If you kept going for your six monthly check ups you would still be registered with your dentist, however as you haven't attended the health board automatically take you off their register. I wouldn't blame the dentist, blame the government. I would contact your local primary care trust they will be able to put you in contact with a NHS dentist, but I would strongly recommend attending every six months as you will find yourself with the same problem again, also you wouldn't want any problems with your teeth go un-noticed as they may cause you problems in the future.
Reply:first of all its not the dentist fault that theyr private if u knew how the goverment was working the new NHS contracts ud go private 2! i work for a company called IDH if you go on www.idh.co.uk or sumthing along those lines (type idh into yahoo search) you will be able to see if there is a practise in your area and hopefully they will have a nhs space for you otherwise ring ur local pct or NHS direct. i wouldt put money into hsc(or whatever it is) as in all fairness u wudnt get ur moneys worth unless u need a crown bridge or dentures because standard nhs cost wouldnt come close to what you are paying in just say u have 2 check ups and u only need fillings ud pay £42.40 each time for howeva many filings or other treatment (not including crowns bridges or dentures) u need, so in all total it wud be 84.80 a year evan if u didnt have like 24 fillings each time so its really ot worth it

Reply:depends where you are, i live in surrey and there are quite a few dentists taking on new NHS patients, we must be very lucky.Mind you it still cost my daughter £180 for a root canal filling!
