First Dentist Visit?

At what age did you take your children to the dentist for the first time? And, if anyone knows, how much was it without insurance?

I read that it's advised that the first visit is between 6 months and 2 years, but my dentist won't see children under 3, and the only pediatric dentist in my area doesn't take my out of state insurance.

Thanks!

First Dentist Visit?
I took my son at 1 for a cleaning and back at 18mo for a check-up and cleaning. He had all of his teeth except the 2 year molars. That is why I took him. My friends son didn't get his first tooth until 1 so he still hasn't gone.

It all depends on you. When you feel that it is time for him to go. I thought since my son had all his teeth he should go. When I called my dentist to see what age he could go, they said after he turned 1. So I guess it depends on the dentist.

The cost varies for every dentist and your ins. info. I only paid my yearly $25 deductible

Good Luck in finding 1 that will see him and use your ins.
Reply:My daughter was 2 when she had her first dental visit. I don't remember how much it cost, we had dental insurance.
Reply:A dentist won't do anything while your child has baby teeth....but will charge you to look at them.

Wait until they are 3 or older.

As far as hygiene is concerned, I put a little gerber tooth cleansing gel on a baby toothbrush, and let my daughter "brush" her teeth for a few seconds while playing in the tub.

She is almost a year old, and actually is successful at brushing for about 2 seconds! I let her do this as play, just to get acquainted with the toothbrush. Nothing really super urgent.
Reply:I took my kid at three. I am in Canada, so it was covered by insurance.. he just looked and got her used to it and poked around abit and gave her a prize
Reply:i think a basic checkup is supposed to start at age 1
Reply:My dentist says first tooth first visit. And I wouldn't know about how much it costs I have insurance. I don't know were you live but I live in Tonasket Washington about 6 hours from Seattle. I take my daughter to a dentist in Wenatchee and her first visit she was five and still had all her baby teeth and lots of cavity's. They did work on her teeth. They specialize in kids they wont take anyone over 18. With my second child I asked him when I should make an appointment for her he said he likes to start seeing kids when they get their first tooth.
Reply:is ther a reason she needs to go? if not a first cleaning usually starts at 3, id even recommed waiting till4 unless you have a problem. my son was 3 and he seemed excited till it was time and he wouldnt open his mouth and my insurance was still billed even though all we got was a tooth brush and floss, once he was closer to 4 he thought it was great.
