Question for a dentist...?

I have had a filing for a cavity on the back two teeth on the left side of my lower jaw( actually between the last two teeth). After the cavity work I could not eat on one tooth. It felt like I was biting on a nerve if I ate anything on that side. The pain is on the top of the tooth in the middle. Here is the problem: I went back to the dentist with the concern. The dentist used a little peice of 'paper' to tell where the pressure point or contact was happening. The dentist filed off some of the higher points. I went home and I had the same problem. I have repeated this process with the dentist 3 times or so. I was told it may take time to heal. It has been over 6 months now but the problem persists. I cannot eat on that tooth. I am concerned that the filing of 'presure point' is not a good solution. Should I go back to this dentist? Is filing for a fourth time a good idea? And help and or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Question for a dentist...?
Before you have an endodontic treatment ("root canal"): in Germany we have a temporary material which is called "Ledermix Cement", maybe your dentist knows it. It contains an antibiotic (fights the germs) and cortisol (calms the swollen pulp). I have good experience with it on my patients. BUT: it doesn't always work, it's just a last try before "Endo". (and after a half year chances are bad...)

I would like to say one more thing: no dentist is guilty for anyone's toothache, he just wants to help and sometimes it's too late...maybe your decay was so deep and near the nerve, that the pulp can't recover.
Reply:You need to see another dentist. I just had a filling put in 3 days ago in almost the exact location and I havn't had any problems with it. Ask around and to get some recommendations as to which dentist to see. I don't think I'd return to this one. After you came back to him when filing it down didn't work the first time he should've made some other suggetions as to what is wrong. Hope this helps!
Reply:the same thing happened to me, on the 4th file down he said the tooth was broke even though nothing showed on the x-ray then told me i needed a cap put on..$800.00. that didnt help. after 2 more years of working on the tooth the same dentist gave me a root canal...$1200.00. that was 6 months ago. i am just now being able to chew on that side. the whole time took 4 1/2 years; $2500.00 in cash not counting what my dental insurance paid.
