First dentist appt?

at what age do most children go for their first dentist appt? my son is 3 and has all of his teeth, should he go ahead and go now or wait a yr or wait till kindergarten? ive heard bewtween 3 %26amp; 5yrs. Should i take him to a pediatric dentist i went to one when i was younger and HATED him, i started going to a regular dentist with my mom? He doesnt like being messed with a lot though so i'm scared how he's going to react. oh and we brush his teeth twice a day and take good care of them, there doesnt seem to be any visible signs that he NEEDS to go now. just wondering what most people consider a good/appropriate age to start taking them?

I would take him now. I've heard that you should take them @ one year, but the dentist we use starts seeing kids @ age 2. Since he's 3, I'm sure he could go to any dentist. My 5 %26amp; 3 year old went when they were 2 and I have a 15 month old who'll go when he's 2.
Reply:now that he has all his teeth, he should go. good mouth hygiene starts young. and your dentist will be able to assess how healthy his gums are, etc.
Reply:now is the time for him to go... I've never heard of children waiting until kindergarten to go to dentist.

I plan to take my son when he turns 2.
Reply:I would take him now and suggest taking him to a pediatric dentist since they seem to know how to handle children better than a regular dentist would. I took my son when he was 2yrs old to our regular dentist and the dentist was horrible! He kept us waiting for like 2 hours and you know how that can be with a toddler and when we did see him he looked in his mouth for like 2 seconds and said everything was fine. Ask your dentist if they see 3yr olds and if they do ask what they do to them. But I would look into a pediatric dentist if at all possible.
