Im afraid of dentist?
ok befor I read entire your story - I'm afraid of it too!
It's been readen :) (this is not right) , ok, the worst thing that could happen to you is to lose all your healthy teeth because of someone or something, and later in life to feel aggravated because of this state of yours. I've heard that in rich countries (like mine is not :) ) dentists have ultra fast drilling machines that drill so fast - it even could be dangerous if someone scares your dentist while.....you know. Or if he gets cramps, or spasm, or gorushicu.
The most sickening thing about the dentist is the pain, and the most pain is causing that drill which doesn't sprays water, and is very slow, and is used when it is almost finished but not quite.
So, I believe that you have the benefit of living in some rich god damn country, which has those kind of dentists who use ultra fast drillers, and I strongly suggest that you visit them, or you can easily ask for painkillers.
Reply:some dintists actualy put you to sleep while they work on you tis may help your fear
Reply:NO ONE likes to go to a dentist. Buck up and get your butt in there....Or, you can be afraid to go and loose all your teeth by the time you are 20...great look!
Reply:Find a more reasonable dentist.
Reply:the best way is when you sit down in the chair amd grab him by his jewels and say we arnt ging to hurt eavh other are we now. lol
Reply:i used to be terrified of the dentist. i wouldn't go for years. the dentist i have now is fabulous. i haven't be afraid since going to him. things have really changed in dentistry its not as painful as it used to be. lots of dentists realize people are scared and will do anything they can to make you comfortable
Reply:dentists have scared me well over 30 years. I especially hate teeth pain. I also feel your pain. I now ask for the laughing gas as soon as I get into the chair of doom, and that helps. But the other side of the coin is terrible teeth and gums, headaches and so forth. gather your courage, get the gas and let your dentist know about your dilemma.
Reply:The simple way to get rid of this phobia:
1) Visit the dentist.
2) Think of the benefits of going and think of the consequences.
Would you exchange a bit fear/excitement for great teeth? Or would you exchange safety/relaxtion for horrible unhealthy teeth? It's your comfort zone.
Face your fears head on and change the way you look at it.
Reply:um ..... I like your name.
Reply:There are three basis ways of overcoming phobias:
(1) Grit and determination on your own by forcing yourself exposure to what you dread until it doesn't bother you anymore;
(2) Desensitization therapy with a therapist who will help you overcome it;
(3) Medication (usually anti-depressant type drugs) used to modify biochemical properties which affect the formation of phobia-type behaviors.
Of course, it would be ideal if you found an excellent dentist with whom you could have a calming and fulfilling experience.
Reply:i have the same thing but i found a really good dentist who will put me to sleep be he even trys to put any metal things in my mouth just to add being put to sleep is great painless and you dont remember a thing after also this stopped me being scared of needles lol
Reply:I don't care because I'm not afraid.
Reply:Luna-
You cant be more afraid than me. But if you don't go you could get really really sick! I just had a ton of work done from a sedation dentist. Go to www.sleepdentist.com Find one in your area, they usually will do free consultations. They give you a small pill and they will do hours of work in one setting. When I woke up I felt GREAT! And I have no memory of the appointment what so ever. Best of luck...you'll be fine...I promise! Amy
Reply:I'm the same. I had loads of Fillings when i was young. They drilled so much off of a couple of teeth that when a filling fell out, i was left with 4x points sticking-up instead!
Reply:my God a novel, get over it! Do you want to run around with missing or rotten teeth? I do not know anyone that loves to go, it is kind of like something you just gotta do.
Reply:luna, darling i am a terrible person to have to help anyone get over dentophobias
they a freaken scary
one slaped me when i was a little kid i totaly feel your pain.
but it is one of those things in life that is horrible but we must face. if you have a nice one then it can still be scay but this whey there alot less likely to hurt you atleast.im not a dentist talking to you to tell you you have to go im your friend..
Reply:Sedation dentistry is the answer to many people's prayers. Google it, and your city and see whose name comes up
it's explained in layman's terms www.cent4dent.com
Reply:don't worry it's normal but as for me my father is in Ghana(west Africa) and he is a dentist who works for the military so i'm not afraid of dentists.
Reply:it ' s OK to be afraid of a dentist , we are one time or another!
Reply:Hi Vixen.
I'm not surprised you are afraid of dentists after your experiences when you were younger.
I don't know where you live but maybe there is something like this where you are.
Here in the UK, dental services are arranged by PCTs (Primary Care Trusts) They are not in charge of the dentists, but they can help you to find one.
If there is an organisation like a PCT where you live maybe you could contact them and tell them your problem. Ask them if they can arrange for you to register with a sympathetic dentist who can help you to overcome your fear. Some dentists are good at hypnotherapy, and use it to overcome patients' anxiety.
