Rude dentist or not?

We recently moved to a new town and I took my 10 year old to a local dentist, we have no dental ins. so for the next 3 visits I payed cash for the visits.

I made an appointment.. went in they did some xrays and decided on what they were going to do, as I sit in the dental chair, when they were done explaining I started to lay back in the chair and the nurse grabs my purse which was on the table behind her and plops it in my lap and says well you can go ahead and pay now. I was shocked! They never did this to my son.Actually I have never known ANY dentist that I have ever been to do this.

My question is I'm getting ready for our yearly checks ups and wondering if I should find another dentist?

Rude dentist or not?
I'm a dentist.

First off, don't listen to these idiots above me whose knee jerk reaction is to advise you to "file a complaint". They have enormous chips on their shoulders, and their bad attitudes are clouding what little judgment they had to begin with. You'd look like a complete fool filing a complaint with your state's dental board. Besides, you'd accomplish nothing by doing so, as the board is only there to address issues of malpractice and patient mistreatment. A rude assistant doesn't qualify.

As a dentist, I can tell you that good help is truly hard to find. Dental assistants can vary significantly in terms of intelligence, education, training, and professionalism. I've worked with many, and while most are pretty decent people, I've encountered a few bad ones. Obviously, the one you encountered was a bad one--or at very least, needs to learn how to be more polite. It is unlikely that the assistant was deliberately trying to be rude, but obviously she was rude.

Let me ask you this: did you inform the doctor about what happened and let him/her know that you were offended by it? If he (or she) is a good doctor who cares about his patients, he'd want to know about the incident and do what is necessary to make you happy. At very least, he would make it clear to the assistant that that kind of behavior is not acceptable. He might very well be able to fix it so that you do not have to deal with that assistant in the future. Who knows, you might even get a free filling or two out of it, as a show of good will; that's what I'd do if I were in his situation.
Reply:I'm only 16 but i would reallllllyyyyy change dentists.. Report It

Reply:of course, and I would have filed a complaint.

Contact your states professional regulations department. That's where they have to go for licensure. If you submit your complaint there, there will be a practice investigation.

PS: ADA won't help really except maybe tell you how to go about doing that. They're not a governmental agency and can't take disciplinary action. BBB is no help either.

ALSO: The Better Business Bureau in your area. They respond quickly to all cases no matter what business private or even commercial.
Reply:a better way for her to act would have been if she said your name, we are ready for you to pay your bill now. Her touching your personal belongings (unless it is in the middle of the floor and can be a tripping hazard) was a big no no
Reply:Yup. Rude Dentist. It doesn't have to be like THAT- %26amp; You should find another. Afterall, going to the DENTIST- shouldn't ALWAYS be like "pulling teeth..." :)
Reply:Ahhhhh, since it seems that your already upset with the dentist and his staff, going back would be uncomfortable for you, and he and or his staff probably know your feelings. I would think you need to go where both you, the dentist and the staff are comfortable with one another...That would be my choice. Good luck and I wish you well.
Reply:Simply file a complaint and find a new dentist. If you moved to a small town, people tend to be more personal with you and your belongings. They don't realize how intrusive their actions are...Mostly because they have never had to deal with complaints to the state because the patients don't want to drive 50 miles to see the nearest dentist... Stand up for your rights, in some states what the nurse did is considered rude...In the human state...grabbing someones purse or wallet can get you hurt and or arrested...ignorance is bliss...
Reply:Not a rude Dentist.
