Should I report my dentist?

I went to a dental appt. to get a root canal done (isn't as bad as everyone says) and my dentist said she had to refer me to a specialist b/c my root was a bit curved and she couldn't get to the bottom of it. Well after my dentist worked on that tooth for quite a bit. I went to the specialist and all he did was take out the temp. my dentist put in so he could see what he needs to get done. Well... I was then told my dentist drilled through my tooth and into my bone now my whole tooth has to get pulled and I have to have a bridge or implant done. This makes me so mad I put all my trust into my dentist and this happens. I know the pro's and con's to the bride/implant but neither would have needed to be done if my dentist didn't drill through. What should I do?

Should I report my dentist?
It would be nice to know what tooth you are talking about but since you say you have a curved root I'm going with a molar. Perforations do not necessarily mean a tooth is doomed to be extracted. If this is a molar, then the offending root can probably just be removed. Sometimes, it's even feasible to repair a perforation. I would get another opinion from another Endodontist. No one is perfect and your dentist did not do this on purpose. There's no one that you can report this to and it's really not malpractice. Just an error in procedure. If the tooth does need to come out you need to talk with your doc, in private, about how she wants to proceed with the replacement and the cost. I would think that she would at least give you credit for the root canal and crown fees she would be charging you and, in good faith, even more. Good luck!
Reply:Wow, I would at least go back and talk to your dentist about it and the charges she is going to bill you for.
Reply:Well I don't know what u mean by Report Your Dentist...but sure in the Hell don't pay him/her !!!

%26amp; mention to your Dentist about paying for fixing this tooth.

However no matter what..dentists all stick up for eachother, and I guarantee you somehow someone will deny something.

tell the dentist, "don't make me get a lawyer!!"
Reply:everyone makes mistakes..im pretty sure she/he didn't do it on purpose..i worked at a dentist office for a while so its not an easy job and i know its hard for you to...but think if you were in her place..how would u feel?
Reply:Hold your horses just yet.

Looks like you probably misunderstood the situation. If your dentist referred you to the specialist because you have curved roots how could your dentist drill through your tooth into the bone (its called perforation) if he/she could not complete root canal?

I would get a second opinion. even if perforation is done it is not necessarily means the tooth has to be pulled out!
Reply:I'm with getting a second opinion. Tell another dentist what happened and see what he recommends to do. Good luck ;)
Reply:I would talk to your dentist about that I see that as she is going to owe you a tooth for nothing seriously. See what she says and then go from there. I just made a dentist appt today and now I'm scared and I'm only having a exam and cleaning.
Reply:Basically, this happens sometimes. You shouldn't turn your dentist in, but you should ask your dentist to pay for the root canal and specialist. Since you are now going to have to pay to replace it b/c of his/her mistake.
