Looking for a dentist that is great with children. My 7 year old is needing work done she keeps throwing fits.

My 7 year old did great at the dentist for the first couple of years. We were able to get cavities filled and cleanings. She did great until she turned 6. Now she is needing her cavities filled again and also spacers. She will no let the dentist give her any shots in her mouth. She does fine with normal cleanings. We are not understanding the sudden change on not liking the dentist. We are needing refrences to a dentist that specilizes with frightened children. Also, we live in the Wichita Kansas Area. (Belle Plaine) In your referal please include dentist, where they are located, and personal experience. We are looking for as much information as possible. We are wanting to possibly get the work done this summer.

Im 13 years old and i live in Overland park,KS I know it is a drive but my dentist is really good with kids and before he gives them shots he uses that happy gas stuff so you cant see of feel him do them, she loves kids, and hes actually a pediatric dentist and ortaontist, his name is David L. Parrish and he is located at

6500 W. 95th Street

Overland Park, KS 66212-1435

United States

Hes great, i know it is a drive but it wouldnt be that often and believe me its worth the drive.
Reply:first of all- talk to you dentist about this - he may have other ideas for treating her such as the laughing gas or premedication. if she is no longer cooperative with a familiar office i doubt she is going to be in strange surroundings but if you choose to go to a pedodontist then get a referral from your dentist. he will steer you to ones that he knows and that have proven themselves to treat pedo patients efficiently
Reply:Just curious!?! Do you or her dad stay in the room with her when she has gone to the dentist lately? I can tell you from personal experience that when a parent stays in the room for treatment, about 75% of the kids dont cooperate with the dentist. Staying in the waiting room is the best thing you can do for your kid if they need work done. Some parents dont agree but I have seen the outcome of both sides and the kids are better behaved when mom and dad are out of sight.
Reply:I recently researched good dentists in Wichita for my teen daughter and I. There were many highly rated but some are booked many months ahead or don't take kids.

I would recommend

Stephen P Fetzik, DMD - General Dentist

2860 S Seneca St Ste B

Wichita, KS 67217

Ph: 316-522-4765

We got an appointment with him and my daughter was delighted of their caring treatment since she is always afraid of dentists. I can tell they were very thorough and efficient.
