Dentist???

I went to the dentist yesterday for a filling and he ended up taking the nerve out of the tooth and then did the filling...but im in loads of pain with it today and wasn't sure if they were supposed to do a filling straight after taking the nerve out??

Dentist???
It's probably just bruising from the drilling and poking about. Take some nurofen. If the pain is severe or it doesn't subside in a few days, call your dentist.
Reply:Well that sounds like a root canal, no they don't remove the nerve just for fillings. He should have told you that was what he was doing though and not just a filling. I've had a root cana; and ended up having the tooth removed a few years later, without the root the tooth is dead and can become really weak and break easily.
Reply:if pain continues go your dentist.
Reply:did he say this was the last appointment, normally it is a temporary filling , on the first appointment for a RCT (root canal treatment) they take out the roots, he may of seen too much decay and that's why he's done one, then file out the nerves, then dry out the canals and put a piece of cotton wool soaked in what smells like cloves to get any infection out then temporarily fill it. on the next appointment he will put in GP points....fake nerves that are made from a type of rubber and then fill. mine has lasted 10 years so far, but yes there is a chance it will become brittle but if caught in time can be capped with a false cover
Reply:you have endodontics , not a restoration u need to be reffered to a endodontist for further information and he will try to fix the problem buy doing re treatment or apeciotomy i hope i helped ! Cee* Bee*
Reply:Regardless of what procedure the dentist did or did not do, if you are experiencing pain call the dentist. If you had a root canal the filling usually is just temporary and you would need to return for a permanent filling and crown.

Did the dentist give you any type of pain medication? If not he/she should have.

Pain is not a disease, it is a symptom of something wrong. Call the dentist.
Reply:I would be going back to the dentist, just to make sure everything is OK.

If it was root canal, where the dentist takes the stuff out the root canal which would include any little nerves in there, then it is usually a temporary fill and there will be a week or two inbetween to let it settle before a second appointment to get the permanent filling done.

However, your dentist should be able to advise - there may be some pain after work on your teeth, but it should get better, and not be really sore. So, go back and get thier advise.
