Dentist....?

I am thinking of taking my son to his first dental appointment. He is 2 1/2. He has a full set of teeth, and has never had any problems with them. I haven't seen any cavities, and we brush twice a day. Now is this age to early when there seem to be no problems, or should we take him anyway??????








Also, should we go with a ped. dentist or a regular dentist?? I have seen a lot of reviews, and have noticed that most people think that they are a joke.





Last Question... Anyone have any advice for if we do take him... like how to make it easier on ourselves.. Our son does not like to be held down or made to stay in one place for very long~ like most kids his age... If you can, please answer all three... Thanks to everyone.....

Yes you should take him, I thave taken both of my children to ped. dentists at age 2 with fab results they love the dentist, my daughter (4) fakes tooth pain so she can go (not good) they love their teeth cleaned. Everyone I know hates reg dentists for children they tend to be rude %26amp; not handle the children well. While ped dentists if there is a problem know exactly (as they only see children) what to do %26amp; how to handle things. My childrens dentist has 2 nurses and the dentist per child plus IO can watch what is going on on the TV in the lobby so you dont interfer *** children are more scared at dentist w/ mom in the room.
Reply:AAPD now recommends that every child at age 1 should see a dentist. I suggest you take you child to a Pediatric dentist These professionals are specially trained to handle children Additionally take your Children to the dentist before the actual problem arise Report It

Reply:My son is 3 and just went to the dentist for the first time. He loved it! My son, like yours, hates sitting still and being held down, they talked to him and told him exactly what they were going to do and what every tool was. I recommend a Peds dentist, they handle kids more and know what makes them happy. I would say take him anyways, just so he can get used to the dentist and if he does ever have problems (God Forbid) he would be used to going. Try to explain to him beforehand, what is going to happen, so he's not surprised. Good Luck!
Reply:Research the dentist before going. Try getting a referral from a friend. It is so important that their first visit is a good one. My daughter had a bad exper. with a Ped. Dentist, and is now terrified (they strapped her down, then put her to sleep to work on her). My son had a different female Ped Dentist and had a wonderful experience. He will let anyone look at his teeth now and drill or whatever. He trust them. Early positive exposure is good, even if it's just sitting in their chair and meeting them. Good Luck!
Reply:First...no it is never to early to get him into a dentist.





Second...take him to a ped dentist...they seem to be better with kids and if he does have a cavity they will probably send him to a ped dentist anyway.





Last...if he likes to brush his teeth and show them off just keep telling him that the dentist are going to be brushing his teeth with some special toothbrushes to make them nice and clean and shiny so he can show them off to everyone.
Reply:Do it now, when everything is good, this way he won't be upset later on if he has problems.





If you can find a pediatric dentist, try them, if not, you want a dentist who sees kids regularly - and sees them as young as your son. You want someone who will be patient with him, as well as not stress him out. This is why you want someone who either only sees kids or sees a lot of them - they'll know how to make it quick and not stressful.
